Maasai Mara Game Reserve

All day game drive. Took a prepared box lunch and loaded up the Land Cruiser at 7am. Returned to camp about 4:30pm. What a day! Alas, no lions today, but plenty to get excited about. Here are some highlights.

A parade of Elephants (only a few pictured)

There were still some wildebeests in the reserve, despite this being post-migration

Zebras

Too much to ask... but we saw a beautiful cheetah! with her four cubs

More wildebeests. I thought they were awesome

Peaceful kingdom

A surprise! Hyenas resting in the shade of a bush.

  1. Great pictures!! What an experience! Was there lots of snorting? Wildebeasts must be interesting to see in herd! Iconic photos for sure!

    1. We did hear snorts and brays and yelps and screams .... but oftentimes the animals moved slowly, and very quietly by. You would be amazed at how quietly a group of elephants can walk past a truck full of wide eyed humans.

    2. The loudest, most frightening noise we heard the entire trip was in the middle of the night, produced by a small mammal living in the tree outside our tent... the Tree Hyrax. Also, nocturnal vocalizations by hyenas prowling around camp.
