Maasai Mara Game Reserve - Day 2

We had the morning free, but we still opted to get up for an early breakfast and a walk around the Siana Camp grounds with the local guide, Dominique. He told us about the importance of certain native plants to the Maasai culture. Of course, we were also searching for birds! Afterwards, we joined Dr. Lee (the current volunteer dentist at the Maasai dental clinic, located near our camp) for a tour of the camp garden with chef Job and gardener Peter, followed by a tour of the dental clinic. I think Dr. Lee was trying to recruit Rouse!

By then, it was time for a late lunch and late afternoon game drive back at the Maasai Mara Game Reserve. Our intent today... find the big cats. We were quite fortunate in our sightings! Another great day!

Searching for cats...

A pile of cheetahs! 5 brothers

Zooming in

Open wide!

We found four "teenage" lion cubs ... spread out in the grass. Here's one of them...

Around the corner was the entire pride, minus the big daddy.

The BIG find of the day... Leopard!

Beautiful markings, and could care less that she had created a jeep jam

Can't forget about the vultures

End of day... scattered rain showers in the distance and beautiful sunset in the rear view mirror as we head back to camp.

  1. Wow!! You're certainly not cheated in your efforts to see "coalition" of cheetahs! Great! Maybe Rouse -should- volunteer!! (Jane Allen)

    1. We were lucky to see the "big five" and so much more! Searching for wildlife in wild territory... there are no guarantees. Binoculars and a good zoom lens on the camera are essential pieces of equipment ... along with good drivers, good leaders, and good eyes always on the lookout.
