Commonly known as The Tiger's Nest, this monastery is Bhutan's most iconic attraction and one of the most breath-taking temples in the world. Perched on a clifftop at 10,000 feet above sea level, it would be our introduction to walking / climbing at elevation. Personally, I felt weak, slightly nauseated, and dizzy going up. The cure was LOTS of water, something sweet to eat (I chewed on dried mango the whole way up), a slow and steady pace, and plenty of rest stops. The reward was a tour of the temple at the top. Alas, no pictures allowed. This is an active temple. We were lucky to witness monks chanting and playing traditional instruments while performing rituals.

Some folks ride horses halfway up. We walked the entire way. |

Down and up again, the temple is in sight... |

... and that's the destination! |
