Acclimatization at Jangothang

Elevation: 13,255'

The base camp at Jangothang is situated near an ancient ruined fortress looking out toward Mount Chomolhari and its neighbor Jichu Drake. We stayed two nights at this camp site. Snow fell during our first night. We woke to a dreamy frosted landscape. This day was built into the schedule to allow our bodies to further acclimatize to high altitude before tackling the passes. Some of our group chose to take a morning hike toward the glacier located at the base of Chomolhari. Others opted to stay closer to camp. We all rested during the afternoon.

Jigme and Sonam - our companions along the way
I walked back to camp with Sonam while Rouse joined the glacier-bound group.

We saw a large flock of blue sheep. They just kept coming over the ridge!

Rouse was high up on the ridge when he took this picture.
Look how small the lakes look below.
