Well, you know the rest.
There we were, cruising along I-40 west of Knoxville, TN when the engine in our 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee conked off with no warning. As Rouse quickly maneuvered to the side of the road, a message came up on the console screen, something about insufficient battery charge. What does that mean? We were on the shoulder, with 18-wheelers whizzing by. I mean WHIZZING! The engine was turning over, but the car would not start.
Suddenly, I felt very lucky to have purchased AAA roadside assistance insurance... and I do mean the deluxe version that covers recreational vehicles.
About an hour later, the tow truck arrived. Unbelievably, we had a problem disconnecting the camper from the Jeep because the brand new electric tongue jack, installed just last week at our local RV service center, did not work. Luckily, the tow-truck driver had equipment to deal with this issue.
But then, he had to drag the Jeep onto the tow-bed because without being able to start the car, we could not put the car into "neutral".
It was at this point that we realized we had a major fuel leak from the Jeep. Dang!
We made it to the Lenoir City Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram dealership in time for closing. No diesel mechanic on duty tomorrow. It will likely be Monday before we know anything. We're hoping for a miracle, but at this point, I guess we won't be in Boulder by Sunday evening. On the bright side, the dealership had a car available for rent and a place to park the Little Guy next to the dumpster.
I guess the adventure has begun!
PS ... On top of it all, Rouse the Spouse got chiggers from all that roadside romping.
